In Memory of Teacher Karla Rigby

Former teacher at Ebenezer Baptist School in Corn Island (R.I.P.)

The Teacher of Life

The chalk fades, the notebook closes,

yet the echo of her voice remains in the wind,

for one who has planted the eternal

in the sacred garden of understanding never truly leaves.

She was a first mother, a root and foundation,

a grandmother of tenderness and open arms;

calm in the midst of any storm,

a steady lighthouse in every harbor.

But beyond her home and her name,

she was a teacher of souls, a light of knowledge;

she shaped the conscience of women and men

who today, with pride, see her transcend.

She shared the fruits of her wisdom

with golden patience and gentle hands;

her example remains, her essence endures—

what is given from the heart always stays.

Today the desks, the classrooms, and life itself weep,

but heaven dresses in celebration at her arrival;

this sorrowful farewell is not a goodbye,

it is the graduation of one who truly knew how to love.

May she rest in the Father’s arms, Teacher.
