The Nicaraguan community in California is mourning the death of Leslie Benard, who passed away following a traffic accident in Sacramento, California.
The news has sparked an outpouring of condolences from relatives, friends, and members of the Latino and Nicaraguan communities in the United States.
Leslie was known for her close connection to the community and for participating in family, cultural, and baseball-related activities linked to Nicaragua.
Her husband, former Major League Baseball player Marvin Benard, was born in Rosita and spent part of his childhood in Bluefields before moving to the United States with his family, had a distinguished career with the San Francisco Giants from 1995 to 2003.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the accident. Funeral arrangements have also not been officially announced, though the family is expected to share memorial service information in the coming days in Sacramento.
