Bluefields mourns the passing of Mr. Rodney Solomon Benard, affectionately known as “Salo,” a respected community member remembered for his hard work, dedication to sports, and deep love for his family.
Mr. Rodney Solomon Benard was born on January 2, 1941, in Bluefields to the late William Solomon and Julia Benard. From an early age, he was recognized as a hardworking man determined to build a better future for himself and his family.




He studied at Instituto Cristóbal Colón before moving to the mining region known as “The Mines,” where he spent several years working. Upon returning to his hometown, he worked at The Booth in El Bluff, where he met the love of his life, Mrs. Mercedes Prado, who preceded him in death. Together they built a loving family and raised three children.
Throughout his life, Mr. Solomon Benard also worked with PromarBlue in Corn Island and Pescanica, later spending many years working at sea.





After retirement, he remained actively involved in sports, especially softball, baseball, and dominoes, leading and managing different teams locally and abroad. Family members remember him as a man whose love for God and family always kept relatives united.
After a period of illness, Mr. Rodney Solomon Benard passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 8:20 a.m., at the age of 85 years, 4 months, and 1 day.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives.
